Lorreda Muth said:I am attending Train’s LA’s concert this Saturday for a very special reason and hopefully a very special occasion…I want this special moment to happen at your concert because it was one of your concerts that completely changed my life…
On Sept. 29th 2012, I would like to finally propose to my bestfriend of 10 years. Finally…after facing a long, drawnout, arduous and painful fight…we reunited…and now with God’s true blessing, he is the love of my life, my significant other…my better half. He stuck by me all these years and never gave up on me no matter what we went through. It was only through attending a Train concert, that encourage me to fight in order to reunite our love. To begin the rest of our lives at your concert would be a wonderful moment to be cherished for a lifetime and a real love story we can pass on to our children and their generation.
The story of us:
We met over 11 years ago in HS. Because of our last names, we always sat next to eachother. Shortly after meeting we find that our birthdays were only a day apart. Sept 18th & 19th. In time, we became close friends, to best friends, to eventually after a while, falling in love for eachother. Because of the nature of our childhood, we were mature for our age. We were innocent and never went as far as holding hands or simple kisses. We wanted to wait to finish college and after marriage to start a life together.
The dream was short-lived when my overly strict Cambodian parents tore us apart to marry me off to a man in Cambodia that was 34 years old. Forced pre-arranged marriage was a tradition in our culture. Women had no choice when it came to marriage. I was 16 and it was legal in California to marry with parent’s consent. It was tough and often embarrassing to be a young married girl in HS but he was one to never judge me. He always stood by me. His love and support was clearly unconditional, and never made me feel shame rather he constantly showed respect. It was never easy. Many times, he was tempted to take me and run away, we knew it wasn’t possible. He was understanding and never gave up on doing whatever he can to make sure I was happy and safe. I moved 1500 miles away with my family and although it made it harder, he still supported me. He never gave up. We always kept in touch.
In 2011, I was freed from marriage but suffered greatly. From it, I was blessed with 2 beautiful children. Upon learning about it, he attempted to rekindle our love and proposed to marry me but I pushed him away. I was scared. To me, marriage was dangerous, I was afraid of the idea of marriage. He wanted to take me away and wanted a life with me and my children. He wanted to be the man to show me what real marriage was supposed to be like. It took me so long to open my doors…I could not trust anyone and he respected that. Even then, after harsh rejection, he supported me.
One day, early this year…As a gift from a friend for the hardship as a single mother, I was given my very first ticket to see your concert at the Rodeo in Houston for the first time ever. Before then, I’ve never heard your music. I enjoyed your concert so much, it was amazing. The turning point of my life occurred upon hearing your song, “Marry Me”. It touched me deeply….It was then…I realized…Marriage was supposed to be a good thing…my idea of marriage was negative…Marriage IS about LOVE…and now that I’m free from the pain…and I can have the choice to be with whoever I wanted…I can finally be with HIM, the man I gave my heart to from the very start, this was the man I wanted to marry from the very beginning…the man who stuck by me after all these years…this was my chance to go to him, the man I LOVE.
Shortly after the concert I packed my bags. My boys and I quickly bid farewell to my friends. I got into my old car, never looked back, and drove over 1500 miles only stopping for restroom breaks and gas, to see him. Granted I’ve never done trips alone because of bad experiences in the past with long road trips with my family. Not that day. I was filled with motivation and courage to reunite with the love of my life. I had faith, I felt if God understood our hardship, if he understood how hard we’ve fought, he wouldn’t be as harsh as to let anything stop me or hurt my children. And nothing did.
When I arrived safely in California 40 hours later, I found that he was still there. Still very much in love and as always, with arms wide open. We reunited and it was as though I had never left, as though we never parted. Since then he became an amazing father-figure for my children and they love him. As damaged as I was…he is willing to stand by my side. Through sickness and therapy. He saw only love in me and nothing less. He wanted to be a part of my worse days to eventually be a part of the best days. He wanted to be the one to contribute to our happiness. He had his heart torn apart yet he was patient for nearly a decade to have it torn apart again. He never gave up on love…his perseverance served us well….He repaired our broken hearts. Although we couldn’t decide on the beginning, we have a chance to choose our ending. Because of my family situation, very few of our closest friends from HS believed in our “young love”…now they can see…true love between two people can happen if both will fight for it…it’s never easy. We can write our endings…
Since the concert in March, I became a fan and “liked” Trained on my facebook. Coincidently, last Monday I checked your page to reminisce your music and found that your band would be in town in LA only a week after the week of our birthdays. I instantly purchased my first concert tickets as one of his gifts to your concert. He doesn’t know Train and has NEVER been to a concert. This will be his very first concert. This is our first year that we finally get to celebrate our birthdays together and I want it to be unforgettable.
Just last night I realized I could make it more special by proposing to him what he had proposed to me last year. To make our dreams come true where it began again. I would love it if our hard-earned happy ending can begin at your concert because technically it was because of Train that is initially what brought us together…Please let me know what you can do to make it special. If it will cost me some savings, I will do whatever I can. I really would love this…This chance will not come again…please. Please help us make it a day to remember. I don’t know if this request finds the right person well but I hope you can be the person that can make this happen for our, hopefully, soon-to-be family…God bless you always...
Permalink Reply by Lorreda Muth on September 26, 2012 at 2:46pm From what I remember yes, and I believe several others did as well. I was so touched when I saw how happy they were...I can't wait to know what that feels like. I can't wait to see the happiness in his eyes...
It would have never crossed his mind that I would even consider marriage again. He's so sweet as to never bring it up afraid that it bring painful memories. In fact, he just makes plans for our future as though we'll be domestic couples for the rest of our lives. He's made a point that as long as we were together, that is all that matters and that's all he wants. But I know what he really wants...and I want to give that to him..he deserves my love and commitment...I'm so nervous!!!

Permalink Reply by Elizabeth on October 2, 2012 at 5:31pm Just took my family (yes, kids too!) to see your homecoming show in Berkeley! My husband and I have been following you since waaaaaay back in 1997 when you had your first CD release party at the Filmore and there were only a smattering of people there (I actually bought 2 CDs because I felt bad!). Then a year later, you sold out the place and the rest was history.
While I so miss seeing you at little clubs like Paradise Lounge, Slims and that funky old basement in Berkeley (Blake's), it was so cool to take my 12 year old son to see you, knowing that Pat actually rubbed my pregnant belly for good luck when I was pregnant with him, and now he loves your music!
You guys make us so proud to have been fans all these years!

Permalink Reply by Robin Major on October 9, 2012 at 8:06pm My two daughters (15 and 11) and I went to the Vancouver show, the only Canadian show, I might add, ;-) and it was one of the best concerts I have ever been to and I've been to a lot. The small venue made it cozy and made us all feel like we were a part of the show. The two opening acts running through the crowd, high-fiving and posing for photos was something completely new to my girls, as was Pat bringing a bunch of mermaids up on stage and posing, chatting and genuinely interacting with the crowd. It was amazing! Next time we will be doing the meet and greets.
