* It's nice to see they changed the setlist up over the two nights. I assume it was because they played two shows in the same city. I'm assuming we'll see a basic setlist in most cities with a change or two per night. I could be wrong. We'll see.

Permalink Reply by New England Guy on July 13, 2012 at 2:50pm Not too excited about these set lists. Way too many songs from the last two albums. They could keep Hey Soul sister in the set list because of the whole Grammy thing, but the rest of the SMSF songs need a rest. But I guess it's what the kiddies want to hear.......... I guess Train never wants to play anything off of "For Me, it's you" ever again. How sad. That is a great album, whose songs blow away anything on the new CD. And to top it off, we will now have to sit through Reverend Scott Underwood marrying people on stage. It's shaping up to be a really crappy night.

Permalink Reply by New England Guy on July 13, 2012 at 7:06pm Perhaps if enough people sent tweets to train (@Train), asking for for stuff from the first 4 albums they might listen and change a few. Who's with me ? (right, like that would work ).

Permalink Reply by Patrick on September 29, 2012 at 11:55pm While we would all like to see them play more older songs it is the new songs that put them back on the radio and TV. There are a lot of "new" Train fans going to these shows who want to hear the newer stuff so they have to appease to the demand. Prior to SMSF they struggled to fill small clubs, now with the success of SMSF and C37 they are filling arenas and amphitheaters. They don't have much of a choice these days plus this tour is to promote C37 so they are naturally going to sing several songs from that CD. Every artist follows this mode.
They play a 90 minute set with no intermission which is pretty good and standard for most area bands in their category. Bigger bands like U2, Springsteen, the Stones, Buffett play longer sets but they have been around a lot longer and have a much bigger fan base.
Based on the 90 minute set and roughly figuring 5 minutes per song give or take with the talking before and after that averages out to about 17 or 18 songs.
They have to play the 4 radio songs from SMSF, Soul Sister, Marry Me, If It's Love and Save Me-San Fran, they play 7 songs from C37 …. combined with Drops, Meet Virginia and Angels that puts them at 14 songs they have to play. They do a drum solo to presumably give all but Scott a little break so that is 15 songs leaving them with 2 left. They always do one cover per show and they have been singing “I Got You” to complete the set list in nor particular order.
We can argue the merits of doing a cover song and ‘I Got You” over some older songs because many of the “new” Train fans wouldn’t even know “I Got You” . I personally like it but I would like to see them dump the cover song and sing a Train song in its place.
But the fact is every artist or band has a list of songs they have to play at each show and for Train that list is growing which is actually a good thing for them. It shows people are liking they stuff.
