A message about the upcoming Boy Scouts show

When we booked this show for the Boy Scouts of America we were not aware of any policy barring openly gay people from participation within the organization. Train strongly opposes any kind of policy that questions the equality of any American citizen. We have always seen the BSA as a great and noble organization. We look forward to participating in the Jamboree this summer, as long as they make the right decision before then.

Thank you Train!! My 14 year old son was forced to leave boy scouts this year when he realized he was gay. I am so grateful that he didn't have to suffer hiding who he is from the world or feel a minute of doubt about whether we would still love him... But being ostracized from boy scouts was a truly unnecessary humiliation. The AMA has called the BSA policy "psychologically damaging" to youth. Thank you for standing up for gay youth and for the opportunity for all scouts to learn the true moral stance of equality, acceptance and tolerance! -a grateful mom <3

Thank you Train!!! Our youth need All the support they can get in life. They do not deserve to be Discriminated against or Bullied! Life is so very difficult for our youth in today's society. Thanks!
ps Pat, THANK YOU for Tues night. Awesome time... #NYC

Thank you!!!  There is no room for that kind of discrimination!

I would like to know what Train will do if they decide to vote for giving the option to the individual Units on membership, as they had intended originally (before the LDS and Catholic organizations threatened them - follow the money). This would mean that each unit (Pack/Troop/Crew) could make that decision with their charter organization.

I am a proud Cub Scout Leader, Committee Member, Camp volunteer, etc. I love this organization, but wish that they would allow the membership restrictions to be decided by the Units, not at the national level. I personally do not support the restrictions, and my Pack does not either. However, I do respect that there are those who are not comfortable with including gay members, that is their right as American citizens. I would like the BSA to give that choice to those who VOLUNTEER our time and energy (hearts and souls) to guide these young boys and girls (yes, girls!) as they grow into strong and confident individuals.

I am sorry for Sara's son. We have had gay Scouts in our Council, still do (but you didn't hear that from me). It's no one's business and not part of the Scouting program. I think the organization is truly divided, and causes a lot of discord among leaders, volunteers, parents, and staff. It does not have to be like that!

Thanks Train!  I have been a scout since age 7 or so.  My son was a troop member until other activities drew his attention in other directions.  There is no place for homophobic policies in a youth organization and I commend your stance.  The more directions that BSA hears this message from the more likely they are to act.

...and I really did enjoy your show in Vermont in August.  It was a spectacular show for our whole family.  Thanks for that also.

Train members: the Boy Scouts are a private organization.  They have the right to form their moral rules as they see fit.  To go against them holds them hostage and denies them the freedom of religious views.  The Boy Scouts are a biblical-based organization. In both the new old and new testiments, the bible calls the practice of homosexuality a sin, just like murder is a sin.  They are not intolerant or exclusive.  They simply have rules that forbid practicing homosexuals in their organization.  As they should, what's next...endorsing pedophilia???  We are really disappointed with your bigoted choice to suspend your show with this wholesome, moral American institution.  Shame on you and those who support this intolerant hypocritical decision.

You know, this is one hell of a thing. The BSA is an organization for kids. It's a private
organization. They don't protest, they don't make anyone join, and they sure don't ask if
you're gay. Policy is that your private life should be just that: Private. That your sex life
isn't something to bring up to a group of impressionable young men away from their parents. I
hear all the time that the religious right is wrong and wicked for pushing their point of view
on the world. That they're trying to bully others into thinking the way they do.

And so you folks have decided that Mr. Nance's sex life is important enough to deprive thousands
of kids of an opportunity many of them will never get again. You've decided to tell a bunch
of kids "Hey guys, sorry, but this group of adults has decided that their opinion is more
important than you, and we agree". I've been involved in Scouting since I was too young to know
what sex was. I'm now an adult leader. I've hiked both North American mountain chains with the
Scouts. I've fed the hungry, clothed the cold and sheltered the homeless. And never once has
anyone ever asked the question "Are you gay?"

Folks, your opinion is yours. We live in a free land, where dialogue and liberty aren't just
buzzwords for a political agenda. I'm going to get quite a bit of hate over this suggestion,
but how about we put the needs of kids over the political manouverings of adults this time.
Because nothing shows a kid that your point of view is right like punishing them for something
that has nothing to do with them.

And no, the BSA is not bible-based. This would make it difficult for the Pagans, Muslims, Jews, Buddhists and Hindu scouts. And no, homosexuality is not the same thing as pedophilia. Please stop making us look... like that guy. We aren't that guy.

I repeat.. The American Medical Association has called the BSA's policy "psychologically traumatizing" to youth. Yes, let's put the needs of kids first and end this terrible policy! Train is also a private organization and has the right to follow their own moral beliefs by not performing.
